ESCO Held Business Meetings in Slovenia on Energy Market Operations
A delegation from the Electricity Market Operator, led by its General Director, Tornike Kazarashvili, conducted a series of business meetings in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in June of this year with Slovenia’s electricity market operator, BORZEN, and the Slovenian Energy Exchange - BSP SouthPool Energy Exchange LLC.
The meetings focused on the development prospects of Georgia’s electricity market model in line with European best practices. Discussions covered organized market models, balancing market mechanisms, Day-Ahead and Intraday trading models—widely regarded as industry standards across European markets—settlement mechanisms, as well as modern approaches to electricity market operations, data management, and trade organization. Particular attention was paid to market transparency, data accessibility, and efficient information exchange mechanisms.
ESCO has maintained cooperation with the Slovenian electricity market for many years. BORZEN, Slovenia’s market operator, is recognized as one of the most successful reform-oriented companies among European energy markets. BSP SouthPool Energy Exchange, Slovenia’s electricity exchange, operates both the Day-Ahead and Intraday markets and is actively engaged in advancing regional market integration.
The primary objective of the business meetings was to exchange experience and gain insight into international best practices, which will contribute to the further development of Georgia’s electricity market and enhance the efficiency of market operations.
Alongside ESCO’s General Director, Tornike Kazarashvili, the business meetings in Slovenia were attended by Zaza Dvalishvili, First Deputy General Director; Aleksandre Papiashvili, Deputy General Director; and Tamar Tsurtsumia, Head of the International and Investor Relations Department.
